Healthcare in Perth

Perth's healthcare system has undergone major investment with the opening of Fiona Stanley Hospital in 2014 and Perth Children's Hospital in 2018. The public system is strong, though Perth's geographic sprawl means services can feel further away in outer suburbs.

Major Public Hospitals

Royal Perth Hospital (Wellington Street CBD) is WA's major trauma centre and emergency hub, centrally located and one of the city's busiest EDs. Fiona Stanley Hospital (Murdoch, south) is Perth's newest major hospital and has become the primary tertiary centre for the southern suburbs. Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (Nedlands) is the north's major tertiary hospital with strength in oncology and transplant. Perth Children's Hospital (Nedlands) replaced Princess Margaret as the state's children's specialist centre in 2018. Joondalup Health Campus (Joondalup) serves the northern corridor as a public/private co-located facility.

Private Hospitals

St John of God Midland and Murdoch are major private hospitals. Hollywood Private Hospital (Nedlands) is one of WA's largest private hospitals. Attadale, Bethesda, and Mount Hospital (CBD) complete the private sector.

Finding a GP

HotDoc and HealthEngine list Perth GPs. Perth's outer northern and southern growth corridors (Ellenbrook, Baldivis, Harrisdale) can be undersupplied with GPs relative to population. The inner suburbs and established areas (Subiaco, Mount Lawley, Cottesloe) have well-established practices, though availability varies.

Bulk Billing

Bulk billing rates in Perth are reasonably strong by capital city standards. Many practices in middle and outer suburbs offer bulk billing for children and concession holders; dedicated bulk billing clinics exist in most urban centres.
