Perth's Best July Events: Exhibitions, Markets, Performances Await

Perth’s winter cultural offerings opened with new displays at the Art Gallery of Western Australia on 8 July, drawing early crowds to the Perth Cultural Centre precinct.

Walkers can start at the Art Gallery of Western Australia on James Street for the current “Local Lens” photography show, which features works from 35 Western Australian artists. A short stroll north leads to the State Library of Western Australia, where free drop-in writing workshops run every Tuesday afternoon at 2pm. Further west in Fremantle, the WA Maritime Museum on Victoria Quay hosts evening talks on Thursday nights about shipwreck history, with the next session set for 18 July.

These venues sit within established precincts that recorded 1.2 million visits last financial year, according to state tourism figures released in May. Entry to the photography exhibition costs $12 for adults, while the Fremantle talks remain free with online booking required.

Markets and food trails

Weekend markets at the Northbridge Piazza on William Street operate from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays, offering local produce and handmade goods from 40 stalls. In Subiaco, the weekly farmers market on Rokeby Road runs Sundays and includes tastings from 25 Western Australian wineries. Both locations report average daily attendances above 3,000 during July.
